Daufuskie Island Guided History Tour from Hilton Head with Ferry Transportation

106 reviews
Remote Daufuskie Island is accessible only by boat and remains largely undeveloped, despite its fame as the setting of Pat Conroy’s novel “The Water is Wide.” A guided tour makes the trip a cinch—this package includes round-trip ferry tickets, plus transportation between island attractions such as the First African Baptist Church and Mary Fields School, all visited with the benefit of commentary from your guide.

Mitchelville Freedom Park, a true hidden gem on Hilton Head Island. The most northern beach on HHI still undeveloped. Teeny tiny crabs, hermit crabs and the most beautiful shells. Any shell that was “occupied“ was quickly returned to the sea. Such natural beauty. It’s around 1/4 mile walk through beautiful trees to the actual beach. Wear shoes that can get wet, and wear bug spray. It’s well worth the experience. Clean bathroom and foot washing station. Loved this experience!

Love this spot at sunrise and sunset. Nice view of the marsh with ocean beyond. Great place to watch the birds.

Discovered this little park - very quaint little park with a short walk to marshes and beach type area. When we got there around 4:00 very few people on beaches. Refreshing walk through wooded are to beaches.

Went at low tide and could not believe the number of hermit crabs. That was so neat! Lots of shells. Our feet had mud all over. There was water at the parking lot thank goodness. I had read the reviews and knew to bring bug spray. Great way to spend an hour or so.

Our family really enjoyed walking around this beautiful park and reading the displays and markers. It would be a great place to stop for a picnic. There is a lot of shade and bathrooms are available.
