This is a MUST visit for anyone visiting Alexandria. This part of history must be told and listened to! While off the beaten path, it is a past that should be taken!

The Alexandria Black History Museum is part of the museum system of the city of Alexandria. This museum focues on educating and giving information about blacks and slaves in Alexandria. There are things that shows life and activities of slaves and how they coped with daily activities. Much to learn and understand the life of them in the past. The museum also features works and civil activities of prominent black men and women in the area. I strongly recommend the museum. It is located a few blocks from main Washington Street. A suggested donation of 3 USD to help the museum.

In every city that I visit I try to go to a Black History Museum. Until I did some research, I never knew Alexandria had one. It is in a very nondescript building; but, oh does it hold a richness and passion for the history of blacks in Alexandria! It is not very large and can be totally viewed in a morning or an afternoon. The volunteers were friendly, helpful, and extremely passionate about the museum. If you are looking for the history of black people in the area, this is the place for you!

Alexandria has had a glorious past, especially during the 18th and 19th centuries. This is also known as home of ‘George Washington’. Being a small town, it is easy to explore this place on foot. The ‘Alexandria History Museum’ is located off N Washington street. Though not very large, it does throw light on the glorious past of this city, and contribution of it’s citizens to the WW-I and WW-II efforts. Worth sparing some time.
